I think Kerry has an interesting idea, and I might do something similar. There's no way I can justify coughing up $7.5k for a pinball machine, even *if* the resale market was guaranteed to be as active as it was for BBB.
But frankly, the "$8k" BBB comparison is irrelevant, because you're assuming a fixed production limit. The BBB production run was limited to <200 games simply due to the number of board sets Gene had on hand. He'll have to manufacture *new* board sets for KP, so that artificial limit of 200 won't apply (unless Gene chooses to set a limit).
If Gene opens up KP to anyone who wants one, then the post-production demand is likely to be greatly reduced from BBB.

Somehow I think that producing much more than a couple hundred of these would be unlikely. They don't have the infrastructure that say Stern has, so I for one think production will never reach really high numbers. If that is the case, then getting costs down all that much won't happen, and as there's no solid plans for future games (and what is there to produce - RLF was barely functional) you can't amortize a big investment in infrastructure over a number of machine runs. In the end we have to pay "hand made" prices rather than Stern "production line" prices.
What they guys learned making BBB (that cost what, $6500? to actually **make**) probably won't do more in savings than the cost of the new board run. So if they are costing $6500 or so again to make, I don't think $1,000 profit is too much to ask. Getting them down to $5,500 I just don't think can happen no matter how high the demand, which I doubt would get to 500 at best at $5,500. |

Even though the timing is really bad for me.....
I'm in!!!!
Lets see..... I just built a house and I'm trying to pay off some credit card debt. I've got a basement I'm currently trying to finish. (None of my pins are set up including BBB #70) Also, I've got a back yard to put in. Last but not least is I have a son at Notre Dame and I had to cosign for him to get finacial aid. Whew!
I'd love to be in a situation where my only concern is whether the cost of a rare game like Kingpin might be up to a $1000 too much!
I just want to see Kingpin get built and show my support to the Cunningham family! |

It's not the best timing for me either.
But,I'M IN anyway. I've already sent my letter back. But I am very curious about the payment schedule. I hope Gene dosen't want 100% up front this time.50% would work better. I really don't want to sell any pins off right now. I'm partial to all 90 + machines we already have and don't want to have to pick which ones have to go. But for a Kingpin, I'll do what it takes.

I would be interested but unfortunately I really can't afford $7500 right now. In 2 years or so the situation could be different, so I'm hoping that Gene does not start right away
I'm pretty sure that the machine would be worth it, but I can't spend what I don't have
