Although I'm still getting to know my Odyssey, I did discover it won't accept hudred dollar bills. It seems to take everything else. Anyone experience this or have any ideas? Thanks, and happy holidays from Minneosta. Scott/Minneapolis

Check the dip switches on the bill acceptor. Switch 7 should be in the same position as switches 1 through 6.

Bill Option Dip switches 1 through 7 enable or disable the different bill denominations accepted by the ZT. The switches 1 through 7 on the U.S. version enable/disable $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 notes respectively. The DOWN position enables the note. Switch 8 selects 2-way or 4-way bill acceptance. The DOWN position selects 4-way acceptance.

Also, don't forget to check your system settings to ensure that $100 bills are configured to be allowed.

Thx, will give it a try. And sorry for the newbie question, but I assume those switches are on the bill accepter? I thought we'd set the configuration correctly via the screen. Thanks very much. Scott/Mpls

Yes, the switches are on the bill acceptor. You'll need to remove it from the game to access them. They are located on the left side of the bill acceptor near the connector.

better yet. Check the $100 bill for mint date. Anything after 2001 will not work in the odyssey ($100). For some reason even the newer $100 bills (not new color ones) after 2001 will not work. There has to be something just a bit different with the bills that the ZT1101 does not like.

Try a $100 from 2000 or < and see what you get.

Make sure the DIPS are correct as well as MMS for accepting 100's as stated before.

About 3 weeks ago I was in a casino in Costa Rica and I was surprized to see an Odyssey machine in use there. The BV accepted colored Costa Rican money (Colonies), I wondered why it could read thier money and not our new colored money. Does any one know? Rolling Eyes

The firmware in the bill validator has knowledge about the kinds of bills it will accept. It doesn't know what the post-2001 bills look like, so it cannot validate them.

In other, more currently supported, slot machines, it's possible to update the firmware in the bill validator to support the new currency. Unfortunately, our validators were end-of-life with the Odyssey, so there were no new updates.

The Odyssey Marrs BV was/is used in other equipement that has been updated to read post 2001 money. The problem (the way I understand it) is that Odyssey used thier own specific protocol to communicate with the BV. Does anybody know for sure?

As I understand it, it wasn't that particular model however. I would imagine that the firmware for a different model of bill validator wouldn't be compatible with the Odyssey's.

I'm in regular contact with the guy that did the Mars BV interface. I'll ask if he can shed any light on this.

I'm sitting here with the guy that wrote all of the driver support for the Mars BV, so we'll get the right answers now.

First of all, there is nothing custom or proprietary about the Mars BV used in the Odyssey. It is the same protocol used by every other manufacturer except IGT. They are the ones with the proprietary protocol.

As others have stated, you must have the DIP switches on the BV set correctly to accept $100 bills, and you must have the MMS set correctly to accept $100 bills.

Now, in order to accept the "new" $100 bills, you will need a firmware update. And again, there is nothing special or proprietary to Odyssey with that upgrade.

It's also important to understand that because it is the bill head that needs to be updated, you may want to determine the model number for it, as opposed to the BV itself. Many different models of BV use the same head, so you have a much better chance of finding the right firmware. However, I just checked the MEI website, and they still list the ZT1000 series in the technical support center.

You'll also need to determine whether your BV uses a Flash memory or EEPROM. And, you'll need the right equipment to reprogram it.

That should do it.

Wardthomas,

Just to shed some light on the machines that you seen in Costa Rica, The machines were retrofitted with JCM WBA-13’s with protocol ID-003 US version. We are also using the Pyramid 5 boards in order to accept the Colored Colones.

Will the Pyramid 5 boards work with any current BV's to accept new money?

P5 makes boards for several different countries and they normally work on wba 11/13 and the DBV-145. I havent check out their info online but I heard that they were upgrading or working on mars bill acceptors.
