I have 2 Odyssey machines. One of them allows me to adjust the volume from 0 to 100%, the other only allows me to adjust from 85% to 100%. We don't like the machines playing all the racket when someone is taking a break or not using it. Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks
Ward

I was sad to see the 0-84% range on the volume setting disappear when I had replaced the firmware chip.

I ended up disconnecting the belly speaker and wrapping several layers of cotton fleece around the speaker on top to reduce the volume. It's still kind of loud, but it's much more bearable.

I can install an inline variable resistor to cut down on the volume but I was wanting a software issue that would resolve the problem. Does anybody know how to make it not play when the machine is not in use?

My machine also limits volume adjustments to between 85% and 100%. (Apparently, Odyssey did this because the casinos were turning the volume down at night.) In my case, I disconnected the top speaker and put a tubular lock switch in line with the belly door speakers. At times, I really do want the volume at zero - and this approach works well.

Sadly, the workarounds mentioned are the only real ways to resolve the issue at the moment.

The 0-84% setting was only available on very early versions of the OS. Do you know what version OS you're running in the machine that has the 0-100% capability? I have earlier versions available in the Tech section (http://www.robertwinter.com/slot/odyssey/tech_roms.htm) but have never personally tried anything other than 062 and 076.
