I believe those are from detergent, likely it was cleaned at some point. They are definitely from chemicals, not temperature.

The most likely reason that your plastic is cracking other than being hit by an air ball would be chemical action, Similar in fashion to the way acrylic cracks when exposed to strong detergants.

I finally got tired of looking at the stray hairs floating around as well.
I took the screws off the bottom, and there was enough play in the tube to get a compressed air nozzle in and that blew them ...
