Here are some machines at CAX that may be of interest to the forum

The BBB is John Casiday's machine. This machine could use a good restoring (should we call it a winterizing?). It is getting a lot of play at the show.

The bad news is that the machine will frequently go into ball search when a ball is drained (trough opto problem?).

The good news is that the EL ramp light works on this machine:

This machine is also one that has the "tube top" on the tube dancer:

Finally, here is perhaps the most interesting feature on this particular machine:

best regards from CAX '05!

Steve,

Was the Kingpin Casiday's and did it have the same interesting feature? Probably not as I think I can make out "not for sale" on the CAX tag. Just curious...

Yep, that shooter lane decal with yellow and red is very interesting. I like the one IPB is using on our machines, with the green and blue better.

Oh, well, unless you were refering to the "I might be for sale - make me a crazy offer to find out '?' " :-)

No, the Kingpin belonged to Ken & TJ (as did many of the games at the show).

I asked John if he had sold his Kingpin to Ken & TJ. He replied that he still had it, he just hadn't brought it to the show. Ken indicated that John had helped them to find this elusive pin shortly after he acquired his own.

I won't depress you all with how little he paid for it...

Here are some more pics of Ken & TJ's Kingpin:

Anyone notice something that doesn't belong on this pin?

Could it be the "Williams Pinball - Made in the USA" sticker?

Hey Steve... I was at CA extreme all weekend with my son.

We live about 35 miles north of San Jose in Danville.

I brought 3 games (Pool Sharks pin, Toobin' & Track & Field vids).

I was hoping to meet a few new BBB owners.

Where are you from?

Thanks
Kerry Richard

Hey Kerry,

Yes, the timing of the forum transition meant that the word didn't really get out about a get-together. We'll do better next time. There were other forum folks at the show, Bill Ung gave a talk on his rock'n AFM and RFM mods. Walter was there and brought his beautiful HUO Flipper Football and sparkling TOTAN to the show. I was lugging around a panoramic camera on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Former BBB owner Pat Choy was there from Chicago, and of course current BBB owner John Casiday was there with his machine.

I'm from "The OC" (I've never seen the show, but it is worth pointing out that it is NOT actually filmed in Orange County. There were a number of folks from Southern California at your terrific show.

best regards

Looking at the pic with the tube in it, I am wondering if our machines will have those slots cut into the top as well? Is this the original spec?

If our machines do come with the "slot cut top" I have a thought about an alternative to the rings that would be "non-invasive", fairly simple and maybe cheap?

Some monofilament fishing lines will glow under a black light. If you accessed some really heavy (tuna + sized) mono line you could cut it to size around the tube, seating it in the slots. Make a circle around the tube and glue it to the other end of the fishing line itself and not the tube. This should make it somewhat clear, and unobtrusive, until the black light comes on, when it should glow pretty well.

That's the theory anyway...

Here's a sneak peak of some panoramic pictures taken at CAX this year. You'll need Java to see these (or quicktime if you use the high bandwidth versions).

Those panarama shots are way cool. It makes me realize how big CA has become and all of the fun I have been missing out on cyclops_ani Looks like a very nice venue and a great selection of games. Thanks for sharing the link.

I believe that is the original spec and those slots are there to help prevent ball hangs. IIRC, the picture of all the tube ramps for this project had ramps with those slots in them.
