My good friend “Cliffy” on RGP (Rec.Games.Pinball) newsgroup, is very well known by many. He produces many unique parts for our pinball games (hole protectors, metal ramp protectors etc.). If you Google him, you’ll see all he does and only great reviews by all! He actually lives about 10 miles from me.

He has expressed in interest in making a few items for the BBB (especially ramp protectors & clear florescent rings) to start with.

If anyone can provide me with some accurate specs on the rings, he said he could give us an idea of cost. He would need to wait for my game to produce accurate / effective ramp protectors.

Can anyone provide me answers to these questions?
Color & type of florescent plastic?
Thickness?
O.D. = Outside diameter?
I.D. = Inside diameter?

With that information above, he can move forward with an approx. cost to us.

Kerry, why not just call Kim and see if she'll loan you one of the tubes? It would be a lot easier for Cliffy to work from an actual item than from measurements. I would imagine they must have an extra or two they could spare for a short time.

There were also some leftover tube parts, which were about half the size of the regular tube (in length). I'd suggest to use these instead of an actual tube. BTW: The leftover tube parts will look awesome in a Xenon as new tube Smile

I'll try to contact Kim re: borrowing a tube.

However, the "tube" will only answer 1 of my original 4 "Ring" questions;
I.D. = Inside diameter.

Not really, it should answer ID, OD and thickness.

How does the "tube" let me know...
the outside ring diameter?
the thickness of plastic?
the color of plastic? (unless someone tells me the tube & rings should match)

If the rings slide over tube, the only acurate measurement would be inside diameter of the ring. None of the other questions can be answered from the "tube" alone.

Please advise?

I think Christian1 thought the other measurements meant the tube ones, rather than the rings themselves (easy mistake). I was sure I read somewhere that the rings were "after market" and not in the specs? Are there any on gene's machine that can be measured when you contact Kim?

Gene does not have eney rings or drawings for the rings.
The rings were never produced by Capcom.
Based on the thickness of the tube ramp I would try a ring thickness of 3/16" or mabe 1/4". The rings will look better and pick up the light better if thay are machiened and not lazer cut.

I'm very interested in helping the "Tube Ring" cause. I have 2 people who are happy to quote bids for 1,000+ rings.

I (they) can't move forward w/o knowing the following;

Color & type of florescent plastic?
Thickness?
O.D. = Outside diameter?
I.D. = Inside diameter?

Some have suggested getting the actual tube, maybe 3/16" or 1/4" thick, I think its florecent orange, not sure (etc)...That's like buying a tire and hoping it fits the rim.

With as picky & anal most of us are...I would want it to be as close to an exact match as possible.

Any help on ALL the above questions would be greatly appreicated.

Personally, I'd remake a new tube without the grooves cut into it if I were to attach those rings. I'd also figure out some type of clear cover to eliminate possible ball hangs. Maybe a very thin wall half-round tube that goes over the top of the rings.

Kim, maybe someone could enter into an agreement with PMI to produce these "rings" and get access to one of the tubes for production purposes?

Just a thought.

Has eneybody considered the problem of the two brackets attached to the tube ramp? Thay are rivited from the inside of the tube ramp.
I up loaded a picture to Robert it's DSC00037 (it's a picture from Gene's playfield).
