Airballed the three-bank lamp right away and knocked out the lamp. Seems a really awkward spot - any ideas to protect it?

Nick, keep your flipper power settings no higher than 11 (that's Spinal Tap 11...)
I went down to 10 or 11 before our "Bash" here (100 plays) and it calmed the ball from flying off the ramp rails as well 90% of the time.
Of course, post again if that doesn't work.

Thanks Rob, I am dialled down for flippers, still see this as an odd spot to have an unprotected lamp and seeking thoughts on what others are contemplating. I'll repost if I manage to knock it out (or I'm sure I'll see comments if others start to destroy it regularly).

Cheers,
Nick

It may be the only time this ever happens, as I've never seen it in owning one for two years or seen other protos with cracked bulbs or wrenched assemblies, etc.
OTOH, there's a lot more games out there now and everyone's a field tester per se, so all sorts of things are going to happen at a higher rate. Agreed, it does look like it's waiting to get whacked...

Maybe a replacement LED bulb of some kind with a lower profile. I don't know a source for these yet...

Maybe use a purple mini-Mars dome (like the one over the Cosmic Dartz hole)? You'd have to remove the old lamp holder from the plastic on top of the 3-bank array and replace it with one screwed to the surface of the playfield, and then rivet the mini-Mars dome to the plastic.
