the dot matrix display looks like a staticky tv. the numbers get all blurry and hard to read.

Is that a connection? a bad board? or a bad display?

You removed the protective film from the DMD plastic, right???

also check the idc connectors going to the display. i have to give mine a smack from time to time to get the display to come back on.
