|
|
My game is having a number of issues which may be related.
1. Game thinks ball has drained during normal play.
2. Game ejects balls into plunger lane during play.
3. If second ball is put into play, ball ends when first ball drains.
4. Game also sometimes thinks ball is in play when all balls have drained.
I can't seem to recreate this and it happens at random.
I have installed four balls in the trough based on what came with the game.
Thanks for any suggestions. I never worked on a Capcom. _________________ BBB #131 |

This is what you do with all Capcoms:
pull the transmitter opto board out of the trough and re-flow all of the opto solder points;
same for the receiver board.
Return to the mosh pit!
I wondered how long mine was going to last before I had to do this.
In less than 3 games played, it was sending 2 balls out. OEM supplied pc boards for Capcom were very troublesome.
I was told Airborne even had this trouble with the p/d board, but I've been lucky with mine.
Eventually, everyone here at some time will have to reflow solder at the giant caps, too. But as long as switches aren't dying on you, don't sweat that right now. Takes time to crack them loose. |

Just an update
I took all four of the balls out and get the message "3 balls missing" when turning on the game so it appears to be the opto boards.
Using a digital camera I could see all four emitters nice and bright and wiggled the cables/connectors. Same 3 ball missing error. Took the receiver board out and re-flowed the solder. Now got "4 balls missing" message.
It works!! (after I put the four ball back in). _________________ BBB #131 |

New Update
Hope somebody can help.
Turned game on today and the same problems started. Game thinks ball is in play and won't serve ball or thinks ball has drained in middle of game.
Looks like there is an intermittent issue. I have not re-flowed the solder on the transmitter opto board but all LEDs are pretty bright and even when viewed through a digital camera. Played five or six games last night after the initial repair and no problems. These were the only complete games I ever played on it
What should be done next??? _________________ BBB #131 |

Check the book for the connector that all of these switches are on. If any of these are stuck closed on boot, the game will act weird.
OK - I did it for you:
Check the following (in addition to the trough):
L Flipper EOS
R Flipper EOS
Outhole
Check continuity from these switches through connector J3
Good Luck,

Thanks for the help Al.
Have not been able to work on the game yet due to a number of reasons. I have quickly flipped through the switch test and it appears all switches are in the correct default position. All trough optos now appear closed also when balls are removed.
If the wires in connector J3 check out fine, could there be an issue with the circuits that control the through opto swichtces. Is this a separate board or is it located on one of the main boards in the backbox.
Thanks. _________________ BBB #131 |
