|

If you've noticed that sometimes the ball seems to stop at the top of the ramp and roll backwards a bit or even come back down the ramp you may think that it is the wireform switch that is in the way, however, it may not be.
What I noticed happening is that the diverter at the top of the ramp (that allows the ball to travel to the bar when activated) may be yielding a bit and allowing the ball to hit the ramp between the bar and the right wireform. Not good, it will break the ramp. The reason that the diverter is yielding is that its return spring around the coil plunger is weak. You need to replace this spring with a stronger one. I used a Bally/WMS 10-437 spring and it works fine. The coil can still overcome the new spring easily but the inertia of the ball travelling up the ramp no longer causes the diverter to move. The ball won't hit the ramp and travels smoothly down the wireform. _________________ BBB#11 |

I had noticed this issue too and was I was going to post on this tonight (and I have, just not first). I too think that the screaming fast balls that move the diverter out of they way and slam into the upright wall of clear plastic could break the ramp there. The ones I had came back down the ramp really fast, usually SDTM. I plan to replace my spring too, and maybe put a piece of "drop dead" foam on that upright too, just in case. |

I figured this out on Friday as well. It's been a busy week. I will definatly need to do this.
Thanks for posting (and confirming my theory)!
