Marvin has a small article about the battery:
http://marvin3m.com/capcom/index.htm
I have all other Capcom machines and they never lost any high score or settings.
My "guest" is a european one delivered one year ago, but it in the history, it seems that there was never a reset made so all original scores are still in the machine.
Better to find another solution before, than soldering in a new zerothing.
Btw, Marvin did not mention if it is possible to solder a socket into the board to make battery change (if there should be ever one necessary) easier.

Any update/fix on this problem? I just started losing the saved high scores. I do not unplug the games, just turn off at power switch. _________________ BBB #102 |

I have not had any problems with that since I switched the ROMs to 1.8. I don't know if that was a fix or not. My machine is unplugged when I turn it off (Well, I use a wall switch).

Believe it or not, they are on the IPDB web page at:
http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?any=big+bang+bar&searchtype=quick#4001
They are listed as being for PinMAME, but they are the original ROMs. There are only 2 that need to be replaced. You will need 2 27C040 blank chips and an EPROM burner or have someone make them for you.
Take Care,

I will probably jinx myself, but since the initial time I had the scores erase on me, I have had no subsequent problems yet on factory installed roms (aka 1.9).
Ironically I played far more games since then, as compared to prior to the scores getting lost, thanks largely in part to Al for heroically solving my left loop getting the ball stuck problem! Thanks Al!

The dreaded high score reset occurred on our BBB yesterday. Any chance someone can burn me a chip with 1.09? I will gladly pay you on Tuesday... really, happy to reimburse someone for time and parts on this. I don't have rom burning capability. Thanks for the help.

1.9's are in the machine as shipped. I think you want 1.8's.
I sent John Wart Jr. the 1.8 rom files, he is burning me the two chips for $11.00 shipped.
Send him an email I'm sure he'd do the same for you.

My high scores have not had a problem. I thought that was a battery issue with the zero power ROM on the board and not a ROM issue.
What is the theoretical advantage of going back from the 1.9 ROMS to the 1.8? Has anyone had any contact with the programmers...?
Thanks!

It was offered as a suggestion of something to try that maybe there was a programming error causing the problem. I tried it and it has not lost my scores since. Admittedly, my machine is still down for another reason, but it did help to determine if it's a power off issue or not. My personal opinion is that sometimes it does mess up when updating the scores table in 1.9b. I haven't seen any other bugs, but since my aliens stopped working due to a motor board problem, I can't tell for sure.

Well I have the lost HS problem and I'm waiting for the 1.8's to arrive but today was a new wrinkle. My HS's have dissappeared twice, today the letters on the HS's are jumbled!! My initials are KSP, today the HS initials are PSK, SKP, PKS on all the HS's. (except for my daughter's buy-in HS which is also mixedup). Anyone else have this happen. Pretty weird. _________________ BBB #102 |

I lost my HS today for the first time. Had a crappy game and it asked for my initials. I knew then they were lost. Everything zeroed out, no default scores in the game.
OK, where do we get those 1.8 chips. _________________ BBB #131 |

Question for those who lost scores: When it happened, were you quickly starting new games as soon as the old one was finished? I've had the scores dump on me twice, and both times I was quickly starting a new game as soon as the old one was over.. even before the match animation started. I've since tried to wait til the match was at least in progress before punching the start button, and haven't had it happen since (although it's only been a couple weeks since I started this).
If quickly starting a game causes the issue, it should be easy enough to avoid. |

Mine have had all zero's once at power up. so hitting new game start wasn't the cause at least once on my machine. _________________ BBB #102 |
