With news out that KP is going to be $7000, I thought to myself, what would I have done if BBB had originally started at $7000 price.
For me, I never could have convinced my wife to go for it back then, and even $4500 was a big stretch financially for us. So I'd have had to pass, and been really really really bummed about it forever.
I consider myself extremely lucky to have gotten ( in a couple weeks hopefully ) BBB for that price, espeically considering that it was underpriced for the cost to make it.
Gene is a true gentlemen to not have charged us all an additional $2500 to cover his costs to finish the game!!
Anyway, how many of you would have put up the 7K$ for the game? Don't forget also to remember, that back then, nobody knew and most didn't believe Gene could really pull it off. |

Here's another good question - if he had done Kingpin FIRST for $4500, produced and delivered them all, how many people would now pay $7K to pre-order a BBB?
I agree - Gene has to be commended for not charging more for BBB. _________________ Robert

There should have been one more option. I would have bought it for that price, but don't think it's worth it (if you think about low production and collectability, yes definitly then it's worth it, but in comparison with really good ol'd WMS-titles, nope).
For me I do buy because the money is there and well I don't have any girl/wife to spend it on.... (yet... but it seems pretty impossible here in Sweden nowdays, the ones that can don't want and the ones that can't want to). _________________ BBB #79 has arrived here in Stockholm, Sweden! |

I voted not worth 7k, because it was the closest to true answer for me. It is not that I don't think BBB is worth 7k. I just would not have paid 7k at the time since Gene was unproven and unknown to me as a newbie to the hobby. |

Having met Gene in 2002, I knew he wanted to do something big. I even have video of me asking him why he wouldn't try and make BBB. He asked the group of maybe 30 people if they would pay $5000 for a BBB and only I raised my hand. Of course, the truth of the matter was, how many people in that room even knew what a BBB was. $5K was an unheard of number for a pinball at the time (with the exception of real BBBs going for $6K). Anyway, I knew that Gene would do 1 of 2 things, either deliver a game or return the money.
$7000 is a lot of money for almost everyone. As much as I would love to have a Kingpin, there is just no way that I could afford it.
I do know that if Gene gets the boardset reproduced, he will probably be able to do the game. But as Kerry stated in his TOPCast interview, there will be a lot of challenges in producing the game since there are no engineering plans for the game.
Just my opinions,
