All it took was one piece of rod from Tap Plastics and a heat gun.
I began by finding a shipping tube just slightly bigger then the tube on
BBB. Next, I slowly heat the rod and gradually wrap it around the tube
being careful not to overheat and cause bubbling.
The install was as easy as screwing in a light bulb.
The rod is the florescent type and makes a pink/purple color when
under the black light. I attempted to light the rod at one end but the light
only made it past a couple of turns.
I think it looks great and is rather unique.
<Futurama> Did I hear someone say rings are cool? </Futurama>

Nice! It looks like you got the winding spacing really even - at least from that angle...any special trick or technique that you used to accomplish that? |

Very cool idea. Would it look even better if the end was hidden under the bottom of the tube? _________________ Ken S |

My guess is that flash photography makes the end look worse than in regular light. You prolly don't notice it much normally... _________________ Pins and Vids #4 - A New Hoax DVD, Available NOW at www.pinsandvids.com for only $12.00 plus shipping. |

I'd be interested to see what it looks like with the spiral running the opposite direction (more perpendicular to the slots/vents) - as opposed to nearly parallel. That might catch less black light though.
So, those of you using rings, and now spirals, are you getting ball hangs? I've only played a few dozen games and have had several airballs get stuck to the left of the tube. A cabinet slap pops it down into the wire-form, so it is not a ball/game ender. Just wondering how the tube mods are affecting game play. |

I hate to say this, but I haven't played it or anything else in my gameroom for like 2 weeks. The holidays have really kept me doing other things. I think I've remembered one hang because of the rings though. I know I've had two or three land on the ramp as it was before the rings.

Yeah, I'm still considering lighting the end of the rod. That's why it's still raw and not trimmed up. My thinking is a couple lit turns could add a nice accent to the end of the tube. Multi-color of course. I'm still tinkering with it. I'm also making a topper out of the rods. Sort of like a neon sign of the logo. Neat stuff. Kind of like glass blowing. Give it a try.

A UV LED at one end might have a pretty dramatic effect - for the tube or topper.
If you could tie it into the UV tube in the back, it would be mode specific. |
