Temple Curator: Scott Matrix
Welcome to the Lost Temple of DOHO, a place where unwanted dot matrix display animations go to be seen in their somewhat full glory. These are animations which, for one reason or another, never made it into games. Hopefully by showing these relics of the past, a visitor to the temple will be not only entertained, but will gain a small glimpse into the design process of a pinball machine. Granted, you won't see any of our secret playfield testing software, but maybe you'll come to learn why things were done the way they were.
Some of these animations are not done or finished by any standards. They have basically been collected and thrown together from pieces that were left to dry months, even years ago. In much the same way that cut-out footage from movies are later shown, I felt that it would be more fun to show these animations in their raw, untouched beauty. Also remember that the impact of animations are often enhanced by a well-timed sound effect or two (you can supply those noises yourself if you wish), and by some clever programming, including timing and careful movement of 'sprites' by the programmer. In the case of sprites, I just threw my vision of their movement together into a series of frames to give a somewhat accurate account to what the player would probably see if the animation was used. So, before we begin let's have a round of applause for those tireless individuals who make these things truly come to life in the games.
And now, on with the show...
